deborahraphaelDeborah Raphael works in the LAUSD Arts Education Branch and is an advisor on Educational Technology and the Arts. Using Starring You Books, her lesson featuring The Biggest Pizza Ever uses a dynamic cross-curricular approach, integrated with multiple English Language Core Standards and Common Core 21st Century goals. This lesson not only brings stories alive using theater concepts, but is also a very creative use of the Starring You Books by StoryBots, that can be adapted for K-5th grades. It focuses on a wide range of skills including speaking, listening, estimating, collaboration as well as pantomime, tableau, problem solving and improvisation. As we were lucky enough to see first-hand, Ms. Raphael’s lesson kept her students super engaged and excited to learn!
