They’re Back! All-New StoryBots TV Series Premieres Today

More StoryBots TV is here! Less than two months after the explosive debut of its Netflix original series Ask the StoryBots, JibJab Bros. Studios has announced that the colorful and curious characters are back in an all-new companion show, StoryBots Super Songs, premiering today, October 7, on Netflix.

Both series are based on JibJab’s hit digital children’s brand StoryBots, which has racked up hundreds of millions of views online for its educational books, videos and games and most recently received the Cynopsis Kids !magination Award for best educational mobile app and Learning Magazine 2017 Teachers’ Choice Award for the Classroom. Ask the StoryBots marked the brand’s first-ever TV show and drew rave reviews:

“[It’s] both educational and entertaining in every scene yet is visually appealing as well as humorous enough to make both children and parents laugh out loud.” – Common Sense Media

“It’s a really fun and great way for your family to learn and laugh together.” – The Domestic Geek

“Parents and children alike will want to binge… StoryBots, when are you getting new episodes?” – Chico News & Review

“From the day Ask the StoryBots launched back in August, we’ve been inundated with requests from kids, parents and teachers all over the world for more episodes,” said Gregg Spiridellis, CEO and co-founder of JibJab and show co-creator. “We’re happy to be able to answer that call in a fun, new way with StoryBots Super Songs.”

Like its predecessor, StoryBots Super Songs centers on the StoryBots, who are curious little creatures who live in the world beneath our screens. However, while Ask the StoryBots follows Beep, Bing, Bang, Boop and Bo as they answer a child’s single question (like “why is the sky blue?”), the music-centric Super Songs has the characters exploring broader subject areas.

“StoryBots caught fire online because of our catchy, short-form music videos on subjects like dinosaurs, shapes, colors, the alphabet and more,” explained Evan Spiridellis, co-founder of JibJab and show co-creator. “This new format lets us tap into that heritage by mixing our trademark tunes with animated and live-action vignettes featuring our lead characters interacting with real kids.”

StoryBots Supers Songs features an all-star voice cast led by Judy Greer (ArcherMarried), with each half-hour episode focusing on two separate topics:

  • “Outer Space / The Body”
  • “Dinosaurs / Vehicles”
  • “Shapes / Colors”
  • “Animals / Emotions”
  • “Professions / Farm Animals”

All five episodes will be available starting October 7 for streaming on Netflix in English-speaking markets, including the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. A preview of the first episode will also be available on the StoryBots YouTube channel. For more information on the StoryBots, visit www.StoryBots.com.

StoryBots Makes TV Debut Today with Star-Studded Netflix Original Series

After racking up more than 400 million online views for its short-form StoryBots learning videos and books, JibJab Bros. Studios has announced that the hit digital children’s brand will be making its first-ever TV debut. Premiering today, the Netflix original series Ask the StoryBots features a voice cast led by Judy Greer (Arrested Development, MarriedArcher) and all-star guest appearances from Whoopi Goldberg, Jay Leno, ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic and more.

The series centers on the StoryBots, curious little creatures who live in the world beneath our screens. In each episode, the intrepid quintet of Beep, Bing, Bang, Boop and Bo go on an adventure to the human world to help answer kids’ biggest questions, like “Why is the sky blue?” or “Why do I need to brush my teeth?” They deliver their answer at the end of each episode in the form of a musical video, an homage to Schoolhouse Rock.

Originally launched in 2012, StoryBots was the brainchild of the brothers behind JibJab, which initially broke ground for its massively viral political satire videos and has since become popular for its personalized eCards and top-ranked messaging app.

“After my brother and I both became fathers, we saw how difficult it was to find quality kids’ entertainment that was fun for grown-ups, too,” said Gregg Spiridellis, CEO and co-founder of JibJab and show co-creator. “We created StoryBots to mix learning and fun for kids while offering a guilt-free screen-time experience for parents and teachers.”

Since its launch in 2012, over a million families have created StoryBots accounts, and its mobile apps for iPad, iPhone and Apple TV have been downloaded more than 4 million times. Earlier this year, the brand made its first foray into schools with StoryBots Classroom, a free platform for teachers that includes access to StoryBots’ entire library of premium content, as well as Common Core-aligned, kindergarten-level math games.

“Every StoryBots book and video we release – and that includes our new TV series – enters production with educators and child development experts before being brought to life by our amazing team of artists, writers and performers,” said Evan Spiridellis, co-founder of JibJab and show co-creator. “The production of Ask the StoryBots has been a labor of love for us, and we can’t wait to share it with our fans, as well as introduce these fun little characters to an even wider audience.”

Ask the StoryBots features a vibrant mix of animation and live action. Each half-hour episode focuses on a unique question and includes live-action appearances by special guest stars:

  • “How Does Night Happen?” with Jay Leno
  • “How Do Airplanes Fly?” with Kevin Smith
  • “Why Do I Have To Brush My Teeth?” with Whoopi Goldberg
  • “Why Is The Sky Blue?” with Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci of Garfunkel and Oates
  • “Where Do French Fries Come From?” with ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic
  • “Where Does Rain Come From?” with Tim Meadows and Chris Parnell

All six episodes will be available starting today, August 12, for streaming on Netflix in English-speaking markets, including the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. For more information on the StoryBots, visit www.StoryBots.com.

Prepare your best monster impression for World Read Aloud Day!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 12.19.38 PM

The StoryBots are super excited to support World Read Aloud Day! Celebrated on the first Wednesday in March, World Read Aloud Day, or WRAD, is dedicated to taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all people. World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every child’s right to a safe education and access to books and technology.

Of course, a great way to celebrate this day and support the cause is to spend some time reading aloud to your child from Starring You Books! Have your child pick his/her favorite book, and settle in for some epic story time.

Here are some tips for reading aloud from LitWorld:

  • Be animated and use a voice that matches the expressions and emotions of the characters during a read aloud to bring the experience alive for listeners.
  • Use different voices for different characters so that children come to recognize dialogue within a text and individual character traits.
  • Ask questions as you read. Ask children to predict what will happen next, or the meaning of a vocabulary word that might be new.
  • Allow children to ask you questions and model the behaviors of an active reader, such as looking back to the text to answer questions.
  • After you finish the story, have a conversation that focuses on connecting the text to the children’s life, their favorite books, or any connections the children come up with.

Check out this kit with even more ideas on how you can celebrate the day!
