Let’s Make a Mother’s Day Bouquet

Moms are the original rockstars. They show us how to make the perfect grilled cheese, they know how to fix any injury, and they tell the best nighttime stories! Let’s make a simple craft that you can customize; make your Mom’s favorite flower (roses, sunflowers, hibiscus?). Hold on…I thought I saw a StoryBot around here somewhere. Any-who, let’s make an easy Mother’s Day Bouquet using tissue paper (an idea from our Mother’s Day Activity Book)!

Time to make the stems. I used coffee stirrers, but you can try pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, straws, or pencils.

We need something to display our dazzling decor. I’ll use a cardboard tube and some construction paper. That looks like…hmm…never mind. Let’s craft!

Check out some shots of the final product. Floral finesse at it’s finest.

Let’s Make Fuzzy StoryBots

At StoryBots HQ, we were looking for a craft that was easy and didn’t require many materials! So we headed down to our dollar store to find some supplies and…ta-daaa!…we found these pipe cleaners. This summer craft can end up being so many things too. Try making animals, shapes, or even your name! However, our fuzzy pipe cleaners are about to turn into our StoryBots friends: Bang, Bing, Beep, Boop, and Bo!

Just Pipe Cleaners

Step 1: Supplies!

We used pipe cleaners to make our fuzzy StoryBots! They are easy to cut, but be careful wit the cut edges. You can also use nail clippers (so you don’t dull your scissors).

StoryBots Summer STEM Challenge: Cars

stem challenge rounded corners.png

Cars are cool! Especially cars that you make yourself.

We had our StoryBots take this STEM Challenge and you’re gonna love what they came up with. The best part? It’s a STEM Challenge that anyone can complete!

Challenge: Create a cardboard tube car and design it’s power source.

Let’s look at what you need, the instructions…then let’s check out our results!

step 1.png

Step 1: Find some rolls

Grab some cardboard paper rolls (aka toilet paper rolls). I grabbed five since I was going to make one for each StoryBot! This is the first step because I always forget to save them…just give yourself some time to collect these.

Step 2.png

Step 2: Gather Supplies

Get the supplies…don’t limit yourself to traditional
items! Maker spaces need the most random things. I used markers, glue, pipe cleaners, and construction paper.

Step 3: Paint

Paint the rolls your favorite color! I painted one tube for each StoryBot!

Step 4: Create an opening

👩‍👧 This is a grown-up job.

Using scissors or a craft knife, cut out three sides of a rectangle, leaving one side intact. Fold the flap inwards and secure with a paperclip.

Step 5: Design Your Engine!

Here’s where the planning comes in. What powers your car? We decided each StoryBots’ car would probably be powered by something different. Take a look at what we came up with. Hopefully these will inspire your own creations!
