Does your kid want to meet the StoryBots? Now they can!

storybots_live_competition_v2 (1)

We’re selecting 100 lucky kids to have live video chats with the StoryBots characters — as puppets! Auditions are open at hiho.video/storybots through May 15, 2019.

All you need to do is simply upload a video audition of your child introducing themselves and talking about their favorite things. No fancy equipment is required; simply use the video camera on your phone or computer to film a short clip. You can (and should) ask them follow up questions so we can really get to know their personalities!

All entries must be in by Wednesday, May 15 to be considered.

Check out some frequently asked questions below (or here), and then head to the audition site to upload your video!

Who can submit an audition?

Audition videos must be submitted by a child’s parents or legal guardians. Both parents/guardians and the child must currently be United States residents. We hope to accept non-US resident submissions in the near future!

What should be in the video audition?

First, film your child introducing themselves (“Hi StoryBots! My name is….”). Then ask your kid to describe their three favorite things in the world. They can talk about anything they want. We want to get to know them!

Should I be in the audition video with my kid?

While we just want to see your kid on camera, parents should definitely feel free to interact and ask follow-up questions to help them best express themselves!

How long should my audition be?

Audition videos should be 1-2 minutes in length.

What equipment do I need?

For the audition video, no fancy equipment is required! Simply use the video camera on your computer or mobile device to film a short clip. If selected to receive a free video chat, you’ll need a laptop or desktop computer with a web camera and a high-speed Internet connection.

Will my audition be shared, broadcast or aired anywhere?

While auditions are mainly used for internal casting purposes, clips from your auditions may be included and distributed in future StoryBots productions. Auditions are subject to our Additional Audition TermsTerms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Can I submit more than one audition?

You can only submit one audition per child. However, sibling auditions are more than welcome! Once you’ve submitted your first kid’s audition, you’ll be given the option to submit for a different child (you can also go to My Kids to submit a new kid).

How can I increase my child’s odds of being selected?

More than anything, kids should WANT to participate. Make sure your child is ready, willing and comfortable before filming.

Here are a few extra tips to help create a great audition:

  • Have you child start by greeting the StoryBots (“Hi StoryBots. My name is…”)
  • After your child says what their favorite thing is, ask follow up questions that get them talking!
  • Make sure that the video is landscape, not portrait (hold your phone horizontally)
  • Film in a bright area with no background noise
  • Film a few seconds before and after your child speaks
  • If you have multiple kids, film only child at a time

Will we hear back from the StoryBots?

Because of the anticipated large amount of auditions, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that every child will receive a video chat. However, all auditions will be reviewed by the creative team and if an opportunity comes up for your child to have a video chat and/or be in a StoryBots production, we will let you know.

What happens if my child is selected for a video chat?

Your audition will be reviewed by our writers and producers. If your child is selected for one of the segments we are developing, we will reach out to set up a live video chat between your child and the StoryBots, which will be recorded and could be used in a future StoryBots production. Before participating in the live chat, a parent or legal guardian will need to sign our release form.

What happens during the live recorded video chat?

After you have scheduled a live video chat and signed our release form, you will be given a link to our live video chat site. Video chats must be done on a desktop or laptop computer. You will not be able to chat on a mobile device. Your child, under your supervision, will be conversing with StoryBots puppets operated by our team of actors and creators. The video chat will be recorded and may be used and distributed in future StoryBots productions.

Will we be compensated?

There is no compensation, monetary or otherwise, offered for submitting an audition video or participating in a live video chat. Please see our release form for more information.
